Michelle Lui, CAE Executive Director
Michelle is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization, as well as overseeing its financial, program, and administrative objectives. Prior to joining the FMA, she served as the Assistant Director of the Center for Financial Policy (CFP) at the University of Maryland College Park. There, she coordinated the Center’s operations, marketing, and logistics for all Center programs including conferences, roundtables, speaker series events, and a project-based practicum for MBA and MS Finance students. She currently serves as a Special Affiliate for the CFP and on the ASAE CAE Commission. Her prior volunteer service included the Board of Regents of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA®) and the ASAE Small Staff Committee.
Dawn Appleby, Program Assistant
Prior to joining FMA, Dawn served as Administration and Events Manager at the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) for more than 16 years, where she managed administrative tasks, planned events, processed payments, maintained the member database, and managed the society’s social media accounts. She relocated to the US in 2016 and worked as an administrator at Psychological Assessment Resources (PAR). She also volunteers as an Adoption Counselor for Tampa Cat Crusaders.
Kathy Bohan, Managing Editor
Kathy joined FMA in May 2023 as our new Managing Editor. She comes to FMA with a background in business and trading and most recently, teaching high school Economics. She has lived and worked abroad in Singapore, Vienna, and Zug, Switzerland and finds her time abroad has given her unique insight and keeps her curious to learn about international politics, history, and culture. In her free time, Kathy enjoys travel, gardening, and reading, as well as spending time with her husband, Matt, and grown daughters who live in DC and Denver. Kathy looks forward to being part of the dynamic team at FMA where she can use her broad range of skills and experience.
Kieara Nuñez, Membership, Marketing, and Communications Manager
Kieara joined FMA in 2019 and is responsible for communications, branding, marketing, member engagement, and social content. Prior to joining FMA, Kieara worked with community bank clients to ensure effective marketing and promotion of products and services offered through TCM Bank, a subsidiary of the Independent Community Bankers of America. She is a creative at heart with experience in B2C/B2B marketing and client relationship development; spanning the financial servies, healthcare, and publishing industries. In her free time, she enjoys being supermom to her young daughter, watching documentaries (on any, and every topic), reading, and writing. She has a keen interest in personal and behavioral finance. Oh, and she loves a good podcast. Kieara graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor's degree in English. Go Bulls!
Shannon Tompkins, Director of Student Programs
Shannon has worked with FMA as Director of Student Programs since 2003. She also coordinates the Asia/Pacific Conference and the regional Doctoral Student Consortia. Shannon has a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of South Florida. Outside of FMA, Shannon is extremely involved with The Junior League of Tampa and volunteering in the community. In her free time, Shannon enjoys spending time with her husband, Ray, and their young sons, traveling and working out.
Karen Wright, Special Events Coordinator
Karen joined FMA in 1986 as a general office assistant and now serves as the Special Events Coordinator, with direct and indirect responsibilities for the association's conference portfolio. Throughout her career with FMA, she has been actively involved in many facets of the association's activities, including serving as the Director of Student Programs, Managing Editor of Financial Practice and Education, and database creation. A native New Yorker, she moved to Tampa to attend the University of South Florida and found herself 'back home' when she started with FMA. In her spare time, she enjoys de-stressing with her husband and two furry-footed children. And yes, on Sundays, she can usually be found watching her Steelers!
