2020 Annual Meeting

FMA International is pleased to announce its 50th Anniversary Annual Meeting will be held on 14 - 17 October at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, NY. Under the leadership of Dr. Reena Aggarwal, Robert E. McDonough Professor of Business Administration and Finance, Vice Provost for Faculty, and the Director of the Center for Financial Markets and Policy in the School of Business at Georgetown University, the conference will bring together academicians and practitioners with interests in financial decision-making and provides a forum for presenting new research and discussing current issues in financial management and related topics. 

Presentations of research papers, panel discussions, tutorials and exhibits will begin Thursday morning and end Saturday at noon. The Doctoral Student Consortium (by application) will be held on Wednesday, 14 October. 


Paper Submissions

The paper submission fee is $50 USD for members and $60 USD for non-members. The deadline to submit a paper is Wednesday, 15 January 2020.

Paper Acceptances

Acceptance letters for the 2020 Conference will be sent (electronically) to each paper’s presenting author in April 2020.

Doctoral Student Consortium on Wednesday, 14 October 2020

Coordinated by Dr. Turan Bali, Robert S. Parker Chair Professor of Business Administration at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, the Doctoral Student Consortium includes a panel session with distinguished scholars discussing the latest advances in research and offering career advice. The afternoon breakout sessions give participants the opportunity to present job market papers or dissertation proposals and receive feedback from the faculty and panelists. Accepted participants receive complimentary conference registration.

Diversity Emerging Scholars Initiative (DESI), Wednesday, 14 October 2020

The Diversity Emerging Scholars Initiative (DESI) aims to offer early scholars from underrepresented identity groups (i.e race/ethnicity groups, LGBTQ, people with disabilities) opportunities to gain visibility in the profession, benefit from mentorship, receive feedback on their research from senior faculty, and receive advice on professional development. Selected participants will present their papers/research idea, engage in discussion, and receive feedback from senior researchers. Participants agree to integrate feedback gained from these workshops into their papers within 9 months and send their work back to the senior faculty leaders for additional mentorship and support.

Laura Starks is the Charles E. and Sarah M. Seay Regents Chair of Finance, Chairman of the Department of Finance, and Director of the AIM Investment Center in the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Her teaching interests include global financial strategies, investments, valuation theory, and financial management. Her recent research focuses on the evaluation, compensation and performance of portfolio managers and the role of institutional investors in markets and corporate governance.
She has received a number of awards for her research including the 1996 Smith Breeden Distinguished Paper Award from the Journal of Finance, the 1997 Western Finance Association Best Paper in Corporate Finance Award, the 1998 Financial Management Association Best Paper in Corporate Finance Award, 2001 Journal of Financial Research Outstanding Article Award , the 2003 and 2004 Financial Management Association European Meetings Best Paper Award, and the 2004 Fama-DFA Second Prize for Best Paper Published in Journal of Financial Economics.She is co-Editor of the Review of Financial Studies and has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Services Research, Journal of Financial Research, Financial Management, International Review of Finance, Contemporary Finance Digest and AB ANTE, Estudios en Direccion de Empresas. She has served on the Boards of Directors of the American Finance Association, the Financial Management Association and the Western Finance Association. She is Past President and Fellow of the Financial Management Association International.

Professor Starks serves as an independent director for TIAA-CREF Mutual Funds, CREF Retirement Account, and previously for USAA Mutual Funds. She also serves as the Chairman of the Investment Advisory Committee for the Employees Retirement System of the State of Texas.
